Celebrating Tu Bishvat in Israel

Many countries around the world celebrate trees.

Algeria

Algeria’s National Tree Planting Day is celebrated on October 27.

Australia

July 28 is National Tree Planting Day for schools throughout Australia, and July 30 is National Tree Planting Day for the rest of the nation. 

Belgium

The International Day of Treeplanting is celebrated in Flanders on or near March 21. 

Brazil

Dia da Árvore is celebrated on September 21.

Cambodia

National Tree Planting Day is on June 1.

Canada

Canada celebrates Maple Leaf Day on the last Wednesday in September during National Forest Week.

Central African Republic

National Tree Planting Day is on July 22.

China

The People’s Republic of China celebrates Arbor Day (植树日) on March 12. The Chinese government says that every able-bodied citizen between the ages of 11 and 60 should plant three to five trees per year or do the equivalent amount of work in tree tending or other tree-related activities.

Costa Rica

Día del Árbol is celebrated on June 15.

Egypt

Tree Planting Day is celebrated on January 15.

Germany

Germany celebrates Tag des Baumes on April 25.

Iran

National Tree Planting Day is celebrated on March 5.

Israel

Israel celebrates Tu Bishvat on the fifteenth day of the month of Shevat, which usually falls in January or February. The holiday is most often observed by planting trees. 

Japan

Japan celebrates Greenery Day, held on April 29. Although it has a similar theme to Arbor Day, its roots lay in celebration of the birthday of Emperor Hirohito.

Kenya

National Tree Planting Day is on April 21. Often people plant palm trees and coconut trees along the Pacific Coast that borders the east coast of Kenya.

Lesotho

National Tree Planting Day is celebrated on March 21.

Malawi

National Tree Planting Day is celebrated on the second Monday of December.

Mexico

Mexico celebrates National Tree Day on the second Thursday of July.

Netherlands

The Netherlands celebrates the National Committee Day of Planting Trees (Nationale Boomplantdag) on March 21 (the first day of Spring), when schoolchildren across the country plant trees.

New Zealand

New Zealand celebrates Arbor Day on June 5.

Niger

Niger celebrates Arbor Day as part of its Independence Day, which is August 3. 

Philippines

Arbor Day in the Philippines is celebrated on June 25.

Portugal

In Portugal Arbor Day is celebrated on March 21. 

South Africa

U. S. servicemen plant trees in Korea to celebrate Arbor Day

South Africa celebrates National Arbor Week in the first week of September.

South Korea

Korea celebrates Tree-Loving Week in early April.

Sri Lanka

National Tree Planting Day in Sri Lanka is celebrated on October 15.

Tanzania

Tanzania celebrates National Tree Planting Day on January 1.

Uganda

National Tree Planting Day is celebrated on March 24.

United States

Arbor Day in the US is celebrated every year on the last Friday in April.

Venezuela

Venezuela celebrates Día del Arbol on the last Sunday of May.

Yemen

Yemen celebrates Arbor Day on June 25.
